kem kem

Kem Kem is a multi-disciplinary artist and DJ based in London. For Kem Kem, DJ’ing is not only a musical experience, but a commitment to cultural archiving. Her DJ practice reflects a passion for preserving her Nigerian heritage, and nurturing both personal and collective memories.

She has lived across continents, growing up between the UK and Nigeria, and eventually heading to Stanford, California where she graduated with and M.A in Philosophy, focusing on Greek and African philosophical systems. She later produced a short film that premiered at BlackStar Film Festival, and most recently was one of 6 artists awarded the Institute of Contemporary Arts Image Behaviour Grant, where she produced and performed a multi-sensory live performance exploring her relationship with religion and heritage.

As a DJ, she has performed far and wide, opening for artists such as Princess Nokia, Skepta and Tems. Kem Kem plays an eclectic mix of Hip Hop, Dancehall, Baile Funk, Afrofunk, Drill, Amapiano, Afrobeat, Dance and Electronic, but most crucially, she plays what speaks to her heart. Kem Kem is passionate about the stories each song tells, and is committed to taking her listeners on a sonic journey, to create unforgettable memories on the dancefloor.
