samantha urbani

Samantha Urbani is a vibrant and magnetic performer, vocalist, writer, DJ, and mentor who – whilst now partly LA based — has been a cultural cornerstone of NYC and beyond for over a decade. Vogue has credited her for “Breathing New Life Into the New York Music Scene… bursting at the seams with new creative energy,” whilst Stereogum has lauded her as “An understated bastion of New York’s coolest of the cool art kids who has earned on-point comparisons to Madonna at her prime.” Pitchfork places her work as “Anthemic, feminist, euphoric.”

Samantha is able to bring an ever-versatile, always inspiring energy to all audiences with her DJ sets and has played at fashion events, private parties, nightclubs, music festivals, pre-and-post show gigs and concerts, as well as at arts institutions and cultural events. With her encyclopedic knowledge of music and one-of-a-kind taste, she melds worlds of disco, art rock, pop, r&b, hip hop, and indie music while she DJs. Her experience as an internationally successful frontwoman of live bands gives her a unique ability to read a room, engage with an audience, and get any crowd in the mood to dance.

Known for her live mashups and super smooth (while unexpected) transitions, her sets are a journey through decades- where New Order and Prince intermingle with Aaliyah and TLC, and the Talking Heads and David Bowie flirt with SZA and Santigold. She plays underground gems you’ll find yourself shazamming, as well as classic hits that you forgot were your favorites.

Samantha is not only available to be booked as a DJ and live performer, but also as a private mentor and public speaker; over the years, she has gained a unique sense of respect in the academic world of music and culture. In 2020, she was asked to join the faculty of NYU’s Clive Davis Institute- perhaps the most prestigious pop music school- as an adjunct professor, where she mentors students of songwriting and production. She since has been a guest lecturer at UCLA, has been an interviewed on radio shows and podcasts, and has also spoken on panels about feminism, consent, and the music industry.

She has DJ’d or performed for: Jimmy Kimmel Live, Coachella, Lollapolooza, Sundance, SXSW, Calvin Klein, Coach, Marc Jacobs, Converse, Alice + Olivia, Eckhaus Latta, COS, Milk Makeup, VICE, MoMA, Palm Springs Art Museum, Central Park Summer Stage, BBC Radio 1, Ace Hotel, Soho Grand; as well as at venues and festivals in over 20 countries around the world.
